A detailed list of what was available in XP and in many cases before, but was removed from Vista:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Features_remo...m_Windows_Vista I suppose the list can be interesting, or of help to someone looking "for that widget I always used in XP"... -------------------- "Someday you will die somehow and | Somethings gonna steal your carbon.

I don't think I have used any of those items. If I did it was in a minor situation.

With so many features in an OS, it's understandable that things will get removed from version to version... but the list could be really handy for someone wondering "where the hell did _____ go" for maybe it went out the Window (ha ha) and you shouldn't bother looking for it. The list helps determine whether that is the case.

I still think the comments roaming around the net are right. Microsoft's only real hope is to start over with a BSD kernel and do some Windows emulation for a couple of years to transition to a whole new OS. Apple pulled it off, and they reaped benefits for it too. Or they could concede the desktop to linux and just stick to business software.

Dunno man, without the OS which platform would they develop for?

The platform becomes Firefox/Safari/IE.
The browser becomes the platform. -------------------- |

I wouldn't say the death of Outlook Express is a bad thing. Besides, didn't they just rename it Windows Mail or something?

They did just rename it to Windows Mail. However they did remove it in Windows 7. It is still available for Windows 7 if you install the Windows live essentials which includes Windows Live Mail. The essentials does come with a lot of junk so you will want to manually install it with only Windows Live Mail.
Lucky we don't live in Europe. Windows 7 won't even come with Internet Explorer on all non-OEM machines. This means that no browser will be installed on all versions of Windows 7 purchased on a DVD in a store. This is because of the recent lawsuits the EU has brought against Microsoft for there unfair practices with including there browser (Internet Explorer) with there operating system. This means there is no easy to way to install any browser when you purchase a new OS in EU. -------------------- Through hard work and determination a person can achieve anything

Yeah, as much as I'm not pro-MS, I think that deal in the EU was poorly thought out. How hard would it be for Microsoft to get distribution permission for Firefox/Chrome/Safari/Opera and include all the options on install, letting the user choose what they want? Stripping out a browser altogether is just stupid.
I'm anxious to see if Microsoft actually goes through with the rumoured home licensing deal...3 PC license for $150 on Home Premium is what I've been hearing. If they do that, I'd be far more likely to upgrade to 7 on our machines than footing $150 x 3. -------------------- |

I completely agree with you Digilink. I run 2 computers and to think that it will cost me $150.00 is not even a thought that will cross my mind. But 3 computers for $150.00 makes me think it's completely worth it.
